Head Coach: Della Mitchel

To be a credible coach, you must be able to teach the game. Everything that I share with my athletes has been acquired through my experience as an elite softball player, college softball coach and my Masters of Softball Coaching degree from Texas Woman’s University. Fundamentals are important to the foundation of every athlete, but I do not categorize myself as a clinician. I am a coach who believes in a culture of success, cultivating a true champion mindset through a dedicated work ethic and extreme team camaraderie. My athletes understand that challenges are not obstacles but opportunities for success.
I create a positive vision for all the teams that I have coached. This vision is directly tied to my passion, intense drive and enthusiasm for the sport of softball. As an elite athlete, my role models were women who exemplified the highest level of ethical standards and professionalism. These important qualities formed the foundation of my coaching career.
My coaching style is one of open, honest and direct communication. Understanding the uniqueness of every athlete, caring about their specific situations and creating confident, consistent and coachable athletes is an important goal that I take very seriously. Every athlete faces obstacles, I have a special ability to connect with athletes and support them through these challenging times in their lives. Mike Candrea, Olympic Softball Coach once said, “Rings don’t mean that you are a champion. It’s that kid 10 years from now who calls you up and says, “You know what? You were very special in my life” That’s what it’s all about” I have experienced this wonderful connection with my former athletes and celebrate their continued development as adults.
